Among low hills, below clear skies, we find the Bodegas Pagos de Aráiz winery situated near the walls of the medieval town of Olite, in the province of Navarra. The Masaveu family which aquired the estate in 2000, imagined a very special, modern, creative winery in this place of serene beauty.
2014 was a warm year with a very long cycle, proving to be a true ally, awarding a slow ripening process, enabling Bodegas Pagos de Aráiz to harvest the later varietals well into the month of November.
30% Syrah, 29% Merlot, 28% Tempranillo & 13% Cabernet Sauvignon
Four varietals, grown in the estate’s (250 hectare) vineyards, were chosen to make the 2013 Crianza using the integrated agriculture method. Merlot: grown in deep, clay loam soil, limited production top quality fruit. Tempranillo: selected from different plots according to their profile, balanced, with medium vigour and good potential. Syrah: grown in higher plots with clay-lime and clay-loam soils. And Cabernet Sauvignon: this varietal adapts perfectly to the estate’s climate which enables it to complete its ripening process up to late October or early November.
