When most California start-ups were growing Cab Sauv, founder Josh Jensen took a different path: searching out perfect soils where his dreams of producing world- class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay could take root. Today, Calera finds itself in highly-esteemed company as one of the world’s leading producers of the noble Bur- gundian varietals. And much like the search for the perfect site, the winery design, farming practices, and winemaking refuse to indulge even the smallest of compro- mises, putting the fanatical and singular pursuit of making great wine ahead of any other. With 85 acres of vineyards planted in limestone-rich soils, nestled in California’s Central Coast, Calera is one of the region’s most iconic wineries.
“A tangy plum aroma meets turned soil on the rustic and rugged nose of this appellation blend by the historic winery, now owned by Duckhorn. The turned earth component shows on the palate as well, with additional flavors of thyme, dried sage, and baked sour cherry.”
